This game is incredible! I can't express how nice it felt to play, so calm, casual and relaxing yet making me care deeply about all the characters. The lgbtq representation was also like a cherry on top, it was like the perfect game for me. I had recently gotten broken up with, so more than a game it feelt like an experience too, being possibly the first thing that had given me true joy in a while. It left me sobbing too while the credits rolled around (purgatory blues has broken me). Purrgatory has given me a confindence boost to try and finally make a game, so thank you.
It's unfair how many people don't know about it, really. I'm looking foward to seeing any other projects you make (videogames or otherwise).
Okay so I'm gonna be honest, this is by far the BEST game I've played so far. I'm sad there isn't a fanbase for it, and was even surprised when there was BARELY even a fanbase. This game needs more love ( and yeah thanks for being an inspiration to learn code games
are you looking for the passcode to the meowseum? you should be able to find a clue on a piece of paper near the big hill in the park. then you may have to speak with elijah and sean :3
So I've been in a rut forever. 21 and got out of a highly abusive relationship a year ago, lost my apartment, had no job, no car, no anything. Now I'm picking up the pieces. New partner, finally bought a car, signed a lease for my own place, have an amazing job. It was just my mental health that was still on the verge of collapse. These are one of those stories that make you have a revelation. Each character taught me something great, and it really made me think about who I was. I know in reality it's just a little computer game, but it was honestly so touching to me that I feel like at the end of my life, everything will be alright. That maybe there is some "Heaven" waiting for me at the end of it all. I'm gonna start making life count. Do what makes me happy and not try to tally the accomplishments or failures. Life is a mindset, not a list. I learned a lot from this short journey and I want you to know this impacted me. Like a lot. The exact boost I was seeking. Please take care, and thank you. Truly mean it.
I made an account just to tell you how much I love this game. I found it through Bart Bonte's blog, and I am so glad that I did. I can tell already that this is going to be one of those games that sticks with me for the rest of my life and influences my worldview much like how Undertale did for me in the 8th grade. Thank you for making this; you have a real talent for creating and inspiring!
i love this game so much!! very fun and chill to play, everything is so cute n adorable and the characters are just so aaa i love them sm. oliver was my personal favorite ^^ anyways, definitely one of my favourite games 10/10
OKay, no, you don't understand. I made an account just so I could comment on this game. I started at 12:20 a.m. and stayed up for three hours playing the whole way through. i almost cried. this game took me on a rollercoaster i wasn't expecting, like HOLY SHIT. like i just. i'm super fucking tired and at a loss for words but. GODDAMN. this was absolutely brilliant and it's definitely one of my new favorites now!! i just loved all the characters and their stories and how everything just draws you in and ugh. okay imma sleep god i'm really tired but seriously. thanks so much for game, it was fantastic!!
*sees my home country named during that one convo with oliver* ah, so this is the best game in the universe. in all seriousness, this game was sooo touching and bittersweet and i loved it so so so much. thank u!!!! and purrgatory blues <333 im not very articulate so idk how to properly summarize my feelings for this game, but in a single word it was: beautiful!!!!!
Browser version seems to work just fine on android, however it doesn't bring up keyboard on name entry and doesn't allow continuing without name (and doesn't have default name as placeholder), so the game cannot be actually played from that point forward. Maybe with hardware keyboard, but can't find my OTG cable.
ah sorry about that! i never intended purrgatory to work on mobile - in fact i'm surprised it loaded at all. there is another section later on that requires arrow key input, so probably best to play on a computer =w=
this game was the absolute BEST! could you please make another one? maybe have the Devil make a mistake, and send someone who should be in hell, to heaven? and we would need to try to convince Satan/&/or/God
yeah, the web build is very finnicky... if it's stuck on the "loading..." screen, you might need to wait longer. if it's completely black, you might need to refresh a few times. or you could always try firefox?
I LOVED this. I played it all in one session, and it was absolutely worth it. I've actually been working on a mostly monochrome game where you go around talking to funny, squiggly animal people myself, so this was right up my alley. Of course, mine is nowhere near the level of quality of this. The characters and dialog have so much genuine emotion, I can't get enough of the art style, and on top of all of that, you even made your own music to go along with it perfectly. I don't usually leave reviews for things, but I just couldn't go without sharing my thoughts even if I'm just reaffirming what so many others have so already said. It's a truly inspirational game.
I think I asked this already but I canβt find my comment where is the ladder that is the only part Iβm sticky on (btw I love your game so much it is amazing one of my favorites)
AHH i'm sorry! you're not the first person who's reported this issue - i don't know if it's possible to recover your file. in the future i think i might put a skip button so at least people don't get stuck anymore ):
yes hello i'm playing through this rn and i would just like to say.
mild spoilers i guess??? but
i literally thought sean's partner was supposed to be the protag and that it would be a weird twist somehow bc my name is dani and i chose they/them pronouns
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE HAD SUCH A HUGE COINCIDENCE HAPPEN i literally only realized that wasn't what was going on because i was wondering and checked the guide and saw their name in there help
ANYWAYS this is adorable i love it so much i just felt like i needed to say this somewhere bc it caught me so off guard
i did end up finishing and that was honestly one of the most satisfying experiences i've had in a while fgdnljsk
i didn't expect to get as emotional as i did at the end, i got super attached to everyone and i'll def be revisiting this, amazing work by everyone involved!!!
Most fun I've had in a game in such a long time. Natalie is probably my favourite character out of them all. The characters and the story are done so well. It really gets you hooked in and attached to the game. Really looking forward to any new projects that you have Niv!
That was absolutely lovely! I remember playing the original jam version or something close to it back in 2019 and being very sad when I ran out of content to explore, so it was a lot of fun sitting down and going through the finished game. It's incredible just how quickly you can get deeply attached to well-written characters (Natalie seems like someone I'd genuinely like to be friends with), and watching all their personal arcs unfold was almost more satisfying than the good ending itself!
I think my favorite part is the subtle differences in dialogue depending on circumstance. The way that for certain cutscenes and conversation paths you have different dialogue entirely depending on who's in the room and whether you've met the person before. As a writer and programmer myself, that kind of attention to detail always really wins me over to a game. Of course, as a lover of music my second-favorite part has to be Purrgatory Blues :V
My only regret is that I never managed to locate that last snowglobe...
I couldn't have said it better myself. All the characters are so well written that you get attached to them, all the characters stories are all so interesting and just pull you in and yes Purrgatory Blues is an absolute banger of a song
After getting the good and neutral endings, I went back, named myself Lucifur, and got the bad(?) ending, and I'm sorry but having Lucifur exclaim his name when he was calling me to the library- that was stunning.
i just finished it!!!! this is one of the best games ive ever played, im glad to have been alive to play this little game. i got both the bad and good ending, it was so fun and im not very good at reviews and such but i enjoyed every second of playing this, ty again <33
AAA I GOT THE GOOD ENDING I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME THANK YOU AGAIN :') I'm in love with purrgatory blues that's too bad that I can't find it on spotify :(. Btw, not sure if I got it right, but is Elijah the only character not part of the LGBTQ community in the game?
I really love this game! At the moment I just finished Numa's part but I don't understand what are Kyungsoon's pronouns. I thought they were a girl but I think after a dialogue they referred to themselves as "son"? Ty and keep up the good work :)

Also if you are interested in translating it into spanish I could help
ty for the kind comment, and good luck with making your game :)
you may be glad to know there is currently a spanish translation already in the works!
Yay!
I bet in a year Purrgatory will have a giant fanbase and have thousands of speedruns on Speedrun.com
i hope so!
what were the snow globes for? Also great game I really enjoyed it! :D
if you get all seven and use them in the right location u get a little easter egg! and ty!
Now that I had gotten to heaven, I got very bored. I now feel like if we die, we're gonna stay dead because it sucks living.
word
compile for linux please
sorry, i never made a linux build bc i don't have a linux machine to test and debug on. i'm afraid the web build is your only option ^^;
oh i could debug it for you!
i'm good but thanks 4 the offer!
I still dont know how to open the door...I'm just stupid...
which door? if you mean the door at the top of the spiral staircase, it's impossible to open!
The door when you first enter, with the dude and the cat?
to open that door, you need to get a book from oliver (the mouse) in the library, give it to kyungsoon (the hyena), then talk to oliver again :)
OHHH Ty! Im an idiot!
Okay so I'm gonna be honest, this is by far the BEST game I've played so far. I'm sad there isn't a fanbase for it, and was even surprised when there was BARELY even a fanbase. This game needs more love ( and yeah thanks for being an inspiration to learn code games

hey, thanks for sharing your story. i'm honored my little game could be part of it. best of luck making your own slice of heaven :)

loved this a lot!! the story was really rich and enjoyable :)

This game was absolutely lovely! I thoroughly enjoyed the game! Though I'd like to ask, would you be okay with me using screenshots for profile pics?
of course go ahead!
